Imagine being witness to the cure of an unsolved medical mystery.

It takes place on the South Pacific island of Guam. Scientists are battling to figure out the cause of the deadly Lytico-Bodig, the native islanders name for a dementia that may crack the cause and cure for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It's beyond simply hoping for a Nobel Prize for some of the scientists. Dr. John Steele thinks the cause is from an infective agent but just wants an answer to the puzzle that he has relentlessly pursued for 30 years on the island. Dr. Steele insists that is not a genetic component though Dr. Jerry Schellenberg does. Dr. Kwang-Ming Chen has lived on the island for 50 years and believes the disease is caused by a calcium deficiency in the diet. Newcomers to the scene are Drs. Bradley and Mash who believe the cause is from eating flying fruit bat contaminated from the toxic cycad seed they feed on. One thing they all agree is that there is in an environmental factor at the heart of this problem. Recently, topnotch neurologists from UC San Francisco have come to Guam bringing all the latest technology to hopefully solve this mystery.
